How To Defrost Scallops
Seafood is commonly used to create restaurant-quality dishes, but proper defrosting is an essential step that is often overlooked. To ensure seafood, particularly scallops, retains its flavor and nutrients, it's important to follow the correct defrosting method. Below is a step-by-step guide for defrosting scallops while preserving their freshness.
Storage Instructions:
Scallops can be stored in the freezer for up to 1 year from the production date.
Scallop Defrosting Guide:
Step 1: Soak the scallops in water for 10 minutes to begin defrosting. Then, remove the shells and transfer the scallops into a bowl of ice water.
Step 2: Let the scallops sit in the ice water for 5-10 minutes to help them contract and reduce their saltiness.
Step 3: Once defrosted, the scallops are ready to eat. They meet the standards for sashimi, so you can serve them raw with lemon slices, Tabasco, or ponzu sauce. Alternatively, they can be cooked through grilling, steaming, or stir-frying.
